"We are opposed, around the world, by a monolithic and ruthless
conspiracy, that relies primarily on covert means for expanding its
sphere of influence; on infiltration instead of invasion; on
subversion instead of elections; on intimidation instead of free
choice. It is a system which has conscripted vast human and material
resources into the building of a tightly knit, and highly efficient
machine that combines military, diplomatic, intelligence, economic,
scientific and political operations. Its preparations are concealed,
not published; its mistakes are buried, not headlined; its dissenters
are silenced, not praised. No expenditure is questioned, no secret is
revealed."
John F. Kennedy

As Voyager transports a group of Enaran passengers from the, "Fema
System", to their home world, "Enara Prime", our intrepid crew
eventually ends up sharing with their alien guests (as well as the
rest of us, it seems) a little more than energy conservation
technology and, "friendship", as Chief Engineer B'Elanna Torres
discovers when she becomes strangely troubled by some vivid, sensual
dreams of a star-crossed love affair.
In her dreams, B'Elanna, while physically remaining the Human/Klingon
hybrid she is, nonetheless assumes the role of the daughter of an
Enaran high official, and finds herself in love with an Enaran man of
a much lower social class, who regularly, and most surreptitiously,
slips into her bed chamber in the middle of the night. During these
secret visits, the two of them make like Bonobo chimps, which pleases
our young heroine's obviously sex-starved Klingon sensibilities to the
point that she immediately becomes disposed to sleeping late, as well
as turning in early, in order to further satisfy her, um . . .
curiosity(?) . . . as to where the ongoing story will . . . take
her . . . and perhaps more importantly, her under cover lover, next.
Key Words/Phrases/Ideas: "Homeland"; "Fema Colony"; "Relocation";
"Progress"; "Fear"; "Ignorance"; "A New (World?) Era"; "(Hidden)
Truth"; "Voluntary Resettlement"; "Change"; "Disturbing Rumors";
"Dissent"; "Doubt"; "Secret Conspiracy"; "Organized Murder On Such An
Enormous Scale"; "What Really Happened"; "Ask Questions".
So in the end, is this art, imitating life, or are all of our lives
now on the verge of . . . imitating art?
Could something like this have ever happened before? Could it happen
again, or . . . is it happening now?
Are you thinking of the alleged genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan?Spoiler space ---> | |
